The educational aspects of KMM-NoE activity are of fundamental importance. A specially important role is assigned to KMM-NoE Integrated Post Graduate School offering unique advanced courses on materials microstructures, on physically-based modelling of complex multicomponent materials, and on applications of such materials in advanced structures. The school will offer one or two year teaching programmes with formal graduation and certification.
The KMM-NoE workshops, courses and training will provide fast education in selected areas of advanced materials technology. Those activities will go well beyond the present education programmes of any European university. The need of upgrading the level of education of young engineers and researchers dealing with modern materials and technologies is clearly visible by comparing the standard education programmes with the expertise required to make progress in available technologies or to develop a new material. The education and training programme initiated by KMM-NoE will bring a novel quality into the educational scheme in materials engineering in Europe.
The KMM-NoE educational and training programme will focus on the following aspects: • Production technologies and standardisation of new materials • Testing methods and parameter identification by non-destructive techniques (e.g. indentation, ultrasonic, elastic or magnetic filed techniques) • Analysis methods and computer simulation of response and sensitivity to varying material and loading parameters • Rational design methodology assuring cost effective designs with proper safety margins and durability in service for thermal and/or mechanical loads.
The development and treatment of these aspects will certainly contribute to the potential of European Research Area in the next decade.
