KMM-NoE Objectives Overview

The Network of Excellence Knowledge-based Multicomponent Materials for Durable and Safe Performance (KMM-NoE) aims to create a coherent pan-European structure of key academic and research institutions, SMEs and large industry partners in the field of knowledge-based multicomponent materials designed for safe and durable performance in highly demanding loading and environmental conditions. The Network has assembled a critical mass of high level expertise gathered from 36 partners across 10 countries.

The main objectives of KMM-NoE are:
• to contribute to creation of the ERA in the field of knowledge-based multi-component materials oriented towards advanced industrial applications
• to network, strengthen and consolidate the fragmented and dispersed RTD potential in this area and apply instruments assuring long-lasting and progressive integration
• to achieve a deep integration in the form of a new legal entity and cooperating research and industrial networks
• to continuously enhance the research and technological skills of the Network to gain and hold the leading world position in this area.

The project will be delivered through a Joint Programme of Activities (JPA).  This JPA consists of the following key areas of work:

Joint Programme of Integration (JPI)

Joint Programme of Spreading of Excellence (JPS)

Joint Programme of Research (JPR)

The JPI shall develop the KMM-NoE integration platforms and tools to make the initially loose Network an efficient research organisation on the European level.  In parallel, the JPI shall install the new legal organisation KMM Virtual Institute (KMM VI).

The JPR shall prove KMM-NoE’s positive impact on the dispersed research in the KMM field.

The JPS shall transmit the excellence created within KMM-NoE to the research and industrial worlds outside.

These programmes are divided into Workpackages containing specific tasks.
