One of the main objectives of the KMM-NoE is to spread excellence beyond the Network members.  For this reason two external networks will be created:
• External Industrial Network (EIN)
• External Research Network (ERN)
These networks will consist of SMEs and large industry as well as research partners interested in development of advanced multifunctional materials.  Most of the dissemination and training activities will be directed towards members of these networks. The role of ERN and EIN members will essentially be that of ‘interested observers’.  They will be offered an access to spreading activities of the KMM-NoE / KMM VI but without any financial support.

The objectives aimed at spreading of excellence are divided into three workpackages:
• Training of researchers
o Integrated post-graduate school
o Summer schools
o ERN
• Dissemination of knowledge in industry
o Industrial workshops
o Training through research
o EIN
• Foresight studies
